New Show for Summer of 2011 - The Little Mermaid

Jim Schiffman with Lakeville Government TV and Schiffelly Puppets will be a presenter at the Upper Midwest Emmy Gala on Saturday, September 25, 2001.

Jim is also up for 4 Emmy's for Performer/Narrator, Children's Program, Children's Segment and Feature story.

Lakeville Government TV, along with the Lakeville Police Department and the Lewis House will be awarded the 2010 Upper Midwest Board of Governor's Award for recognition of an outstanding Community Partnership.

Kids & Government staff in car vs deer accident

Tim Klausler and I were involved in a pretty serious accident last pm (Oct. 22). We were driving back from a video shoot for our Kids & Government show when a deer leaped in front of our van.
The deer seems to have kicked Tim's head through the drivers side window and rendered him unconscious. We went into the oncoming lane of traffic and was hit by another vehicle. We were both transported to HCMC Trauma Center in Minneapolis. I am lucky, a lot of bruises on my ribs and legs. Tim broke a bone in his left shoulder. We are both at home recuperating. We should be OK but we are both happy to just be alive. Take a look at these pics. All for now.

Kids and Government/Schiffelly Puppets Wins It's 3rd Upper Midwest Emmy

Here is the scoop. It was a great night! RR the Raccoon was a presenter with Jason DeRusha from WCCO-TV and I think the audience got a kick out of seeing the 2 of them banter back and forth.

We were nominated for 4 Emmy's and we brought home one. We won for our third time in the Children's/Youth category. Who knew, but this must really be a good show.

RR did not win for best host this year, but he will be back next year.

RR has been measured and fitted for his tux for the Upper Midwest Emmy awards on Saturday, Sept. 26th. He looks cool and dapper. He usually get hand-me-down clothes or gets them on super clearance at Kohl's.

RR the Raccoon nominated for a 2009 Regional Emmy Award!

RR the Raccoon, congenile host of the LGTV program "Lakeville Kids & Government", has been nominated for a Upper Midwest regional Emmy award. RR has been working for the City of Lakeville in Minnesota since 1990 when he starred in the original video "The Recycling Raccoon's Amazing Adventure and it's sequel "The Recycling Raccoon meets the Post Consumer Label Man". He has also been the host of LK&G for the past 10 years. RR also performs with the puppet touring company Schiffelly Puppets, who perform LIVE shows throughout the Upper Midwest area.
RR is honored to be nominated and will be attending the awards banquet. But first he has to find a tuxedo that will fit a raccoon.

WOW! This is great!!! This year we are nominated in 4 categories for the Upper Midwest Emmy's. Our Kids and Government show was nominated in the Children's/Youth category and also in the Community/Cable access category. We also got a nomination for our puppet safety psa's that included information on safe driving, car seat and violence prevention.

But the nomination that was the biggest surprise was for RR the Raccoon. Our venerable host of Kids and Government was nominated for best host! Incredible. Congrates to all who helped make this possible. The Emmy's will be announced on Sat., September 26th. We will let you know what the outcome is. All for now

The Emmy goes to . . . Jim Schiffman and Schiffelly Puppets

To keep it simple, we won the Emmy last night at the Upper Midwest Emmy program. This is our second win in four years. How COOL. It was a great evening and we hope to be there again next year.

Just found out that we have been nominated for the second time for an EMMY Award. YEAH!!! Our show we produce with the City of Lakeville, "Kids and Government", was nominated in the Children/Youth catagory. If you remember, we WON this same award back in 2005. The award winners for the Upper Midwest EMMY's will be announced on October 25. Our competition is a show called "Caroline Visits" from WDAY - TV in Fargo. Good luck to us both. This is SOOOOO cool.

After 40 plus shows, it is time to get the kids back to school and have a little down time from puppets. We had some great audiences this summer and some that our shows were part of their learning about how to act when watching a LIVE performance. To the thousands of people who came to see our shows we all say a big "THANK YOU".

July 4th Parade. . . Fun In The Sun!

Here are several pics of the GREAT time we had doing the Apple Valley Parade. Shelley was our driver. Sue was the Candy Coordinator. This week is the aniversary of when all this puppets stuff begun. Shelley, Peter Largen and myself started doing shows for the City of Apple Valley exactly 30 years ago. Unbelieveable. I thought I would put up some old pics so folks could laugh and see how we were 30 summers ago. Also featured is the old puppet team of George and Georgette. Most of these pics are from the 1979 and 1980 Apple Valley Mobile Puppet Theatre. Enjoy!

Hi to all. We are about to start our busy Spring performance season, before we get into our crazy Summer performance schedule. We are looking forward to the return of Shelley Kothe to our performances. Shelley has been ill since last fall and we are excitied about her return, along with the return of the ever popular Georgette the Frog.
We also want to thank Kathleen Westgard for her help while Shelley has been sidelined. She was a great help to us and I'm sure we will see her back with the puppets again.

Just a reminder our next performance is on Saturday, April 19th at the Rochester Library with our performance beginning at 10:30am.

March 2008 Update

Things are busy as we prepare for our Summer 2008 show. We still have quite a few shows to do in March and April.
Once we hit May we will begin to do outdoor shows with our puppet wagon. YEAH!

Summer 2008 Booking Begins ! ! !

LET'S GET MOVING FOLKS. 2008 IS HERE!

Hi to all. We are just 1 full week into the new year and our friends at area libraries are already making their plans for this upcoming summer. They have been phone calling and emailing us quite frequently as they try to get their BEST show dates for this upcoming summer. It is nice to know that after many years of working with MELSA and the 7 county metro area libraries, that they still like having us back year after year. Keep those shows coming!

Our dear friend Shelley Kothe is back from the Mayo Clinic and is recovering from her recent surgery. Shelley's spirit's are as good as ever and she is glad to be home away from Mayo for a while. We will keep you updated and hope and pray that she will be back performing with us soon.

"No Nose" 2007 Holiday Shows End!

Hi again to all! Once again we put Rudolph, Santa and Slurppy the Snowman back into their suitcases until next year.
We had 16 performances of this grand old holiday show and the audience seems to love it as much as in the past.

Starting in January, it is back to performing our "Wiz of Oz" parody that went over very well, as our touring show this past summer. Just think only 6 more months and we pack up Oz and start performing our Peter Pan show.

On a more serious note, our friend and master puppet maker Shelley Kothe has been quite ill this past month. She was unable to perform with us over the month of December because of some unknown illness. She is down at the Mayo Clinic and has recently had surgery to see what is going on. We ask all our friends to pray for Shelley and hope that she have a fast recover. All the puppets miss her and our thinking of her.

Schiffely Puppets meet Mary Beth Carlson

On Friday, Dec 7th Louie, Grammy Lumpitt and Elwood McFarland joined Mary Beth Carlson on stage for
one of her annual Christmas Celebrations. We performed together at Hope Church in Edina, MN.
The puppets were a bit intimadated by the high calaber of talent of the mucicians, but we got through
it anyway. It was a lot of fun and we hope to be part of it again in the future.

What a turn out for our show on Sat. Nov. 3rd at the grand opening of the new library in Forest Lake MN. We had a crowd of about 150 kids and VERY Supportive adults who got ALL of our goofy jokes.

Special thanks to Kathleen Westgard for coming in and doing a GREAT job as narrator.

We get a break for a bit. No shows till December when we start our holiday classic "No Nose For Rudolph".

Also, our new show for the Summer of 2008 is ( drum roll please). . . Captain Schnook, Stinker Bell and the High Frying Adventures of Peter Pan. More info on the web site coming soon.

Learning Treehouse Fans Pay Us A Visit

Hello again.

Tonight at our show at the Woodbury Community Center, we had a family ask us if we had done a video series called the Learning Tree House. We said yes. Shelley Kothe and I wrote and performed the series in the late 90's after our deal with the Walt Disney Co. fell through. The Mom said they had just moved to the Minneapolis area from Chicago, and her kids now 8 and 5 had grown up watching the series. She said her kids recognized the characters and voices from the show. They thought it was very neat that they coul meet us and tell us how much the show ment to them. How cool is that!!!

Busy Weekend of Shows ! ! !

WOW! What a weekend of programs. On Friday Oct. 26th we did a show in Cottage Grove for some 200 kids & adults. Then on Saturday Oct. 27, we did a Church Halloween party for 175 kids and adults. Thanks for the Lasagna dinner! ! ! Then we finished on Sun Oct 28 with a show at a Country Club for 100 kids and adults. Thanks to all who attended and made our job as performers fun and easy!

Haunted Forest Shows a SMASH ! ! !

Wow! What a turn out for this great event in Lakeville, MN. We were a last minute addition to the event which included a haunted trail (Very scary according to our kids Olivia & Ethan). Along with a kiddie trick or treat area. We had an incredible 150 people or more for each of our 3 shows. Thank you to all who attended and laughed at all our goofy jokes.

Last Minute Halloween Show for Lakeville, MN

Hey-
Just got a late call to perform at the City of Lakeville, MN's Haunted Forest on Saturday Oct. 20th
with showtimes at 7 & 7:40pm. These will be 20 minute shows and weather permitting will be a great time
for all the little ghosts and goblins attending.

Also keep checking out the website for new updates. We are in the home stretch and have almost completed
our updates to get us back to where we were.
